The Ucuncha district is located in the Bolívar Province in the La Libertad region in western Peru . The district was established on November 20, 1916. It has an area of ​​100 km². The 2017 census counted 785 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1234, in 2007 it was 946. The district administration is located in the 2625  m high village of Ucuncha with 672 inhabitants (as of 2017). Ucuncha is 17 km west of the provincial capital Bolívar .

Geographical location

The district of Ucuncha is located on the east bank of the north-flowing Río Marañón in the west of the province of Bolívar.

The Ucuncha district is bordered by the José Sabogal district ( San Marcos province ) to the west, the Longotea district to the north, the Uchumarca district to the northeast and the Bolívar district to the east and south .
