Udo Bonnet

Udo Bonnet (born September 25, 1961 in Dortmund ) is a German psychiatrist and brain researcher. He is professor for clinical psychiatry and psychotherapy at the University of Duisburg-Essen and head physician at the clinic for psychiatry, psychotherapy and psychosomatics at the Evangelical Hospital Castrop-Rauxel .

Life

After graduating from Goethe-Gymnasium Dortmund and doing community service in Dortmund, Bonnet began studying biology at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster in 1984 . After completing a preliminary diploma examination, he switched to studying human medicine in 1986, graduating from the University of Essen in 1992.

From 1988 to 2006 he carried out neurophysiological research at the Institute for Physiology at the University of Duisburg-Essen with Dieter Bingmann. During his time as an assistant doctor at the Neurological University Clinic in Essen with Hans-Christoph Diener (1992–1994), he completed his doctorate in 1993 with summa cum laude . From 1995 to 2000 Bonnet was an assistant doctor at the LVR-Klinikum Essen , University Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, with head physician Markus Gastpar . In 1999 he was qualified as a specialist in psychiatry and in 2001 as a specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy.

From 2000 Bonnet served as senior physician of the LVR-Klinikum Essen, among others in the acute psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry and addiction medicine worked. From 2005 to 2011 he was Deputy Director and Senior Consultant at the Clinic for Dependent Behavior and Addiction Medicine (Director Norbert Scherbaum ) at the LVR Klinikum Essen. From 2006 to 2011 he was Deputy Director and Senior Consultant at the Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy (Director Jens Wiltfang) at the LVR Clinic in Essen.

In 2000 Bonnet qualified as a professor in psychiatry at the Medical Faculty of the University of Duisburg-Essen on the subject of Is the intracellular pH value of central neurons relevant for neuropsychopharmacology? . In 2005/2006 he completed a postgraduate course to become a Certified Health Care Manager at the Bochum University of Applied Sciences .

In 2007 Bonnet became an adjunct professor for psychiatry at the University of Duisburg-Essen. In 2011 he became chief physician at the clinic for psychiatry, psychotherapy and psychosomatics in the Evangelical Hospital Castrop-Rauxel.

Bonnet has been an extraordinary member of the Drugs Commission of the German medical profession since 2011 .

In basic neurophysiological research, he dealt with the effect of anticonvulsants and other drugs on the excitability and plasticity of central neurons , including those from human brains. A clinical and scientific focus of Bonnet is the treatment of cannabis addiction . In 2006 he was the corresponding author of the first German treatment guideline for cannabis-related disorders. Other topics include the improvement of alcohol withdrawal treatments , the abuse of and addiction to pain medication including gabapentinoids such as pregabalin, and whether psychotherapeutic interventions can improve the placebo effect of antidepressants in the treatment of depression .
