description

Ugni candollei is an evergreen shrub that reaches heights of up to 2 m. The bark of young branches, the leaves, flower stalks and fruits are more or less hairy. The decussate arranged, simple and short stalked, pointed or bespitzten leaves are glossy dark green, oval to lance-shaped or inverted-egg-shaped, with significantly sunken central vein. The hermaphroditic, small, pendulous and axillary, long-stemmed flowers with a double inflorescence are four to five-fold. There are two small, narrow bracts under the flowers . The narrow, triangular sepals are free on the cup-shaped, more or less hairy flower cup . The pure white, free and roofed petals are 6 to 9 mm in size. There are 50 to 120 short, 2 to 3 mm long stamens . The conical stylus is 3 to 6 mm long, the draft tube ovary is inferior. There is a bare discus .

The small, finely hairy and almost round, multiselled berry fruits with the persistent sepals and discus remnants at the tip have a diameter of up to 13 mm and ripen red. The seeds are up to 2 mm in size.
