The Ukleisee is a body of water near the town of Eutin (district Sielbeck ) in the Ostholstein district . Its formation goes back to the last glacial period ( Weichsel glacial period ). It is a so-called dead lake .

History and description

The lake, also called Uglei Lake in older sources , can be explored on a circular hiking trail. In the Middle Ages there was a Slavic settlement on its bank . Old embankments and earth walls of a previous castle can still be seen. Not far from the lake is the former ducal Oldenburg hunting lodge built by Georg Greggenhofer in 1776 , the roof structure of which burned out completely on the night of March 28, 2007, but was renovated again within a year. In the 21st century it is used for concerts and other events. At the time of Eutin's cultural heyday in the 18th century ( Weimar des Nordens ), the lake was mentioned frequently in literature. There are also several sagas and legends related to the Ukleisee.

fauna

Living in Ukleisee bleak / arbor ( Alburnus alburnus ), roach / roach ( Rutilus rutilus ), pike ( Esox lucius ), perch ( Perca fluviatilis ), moderlieschen ( Leucaspius delineatus ), Rudd ( Scardinius erythrophthalmus ), eel ( Anguilla anguilla ), carp ( Cyprinus carpio ), gudgeon ( Gobio gobio ), zander / schill ( Stizostedion lucioperca ), bream / lead ( Abramis brama ) and ruff ( Gymnocephalus cernua ).

poem

Lake Uglei

Tightly enclosed by hills, mysteriously veiled in the forest night, the Uglei lake dawns,
a dark eye that
looks up to the sun only at the hour of noon.

Unworldly silence reigns here,
no breath of the abyss stirs pure mirrors,
Only in the forest's tops above
Walks like distant song a roar.
