Ulrich Finckh

Ulrich Finck (* 4. September 1927 in Heilbronn , † 25. July 2019 in Bremen ) was a German Protestant he pastors . From 1971 to 1980 he was the honorary managing director of the Evangelical Working Group on Conscientious Objection and Peace (EAK).

Life

At the age of 15 he was drafted as an air force helper. He graduated from high school in 1943. Subsequently, after completing the Reich Labor Service, he was a soldier in the Navy and the Army before he was taken prisoner by the Americans . He then studied Protestant theology in Marburg , Mainz and Göttingen . He was then pastor in Mettenheim . From 1962 he worked as a student pastor in Hamburg . In 1970 he became pastor at the Horner Church in Bremen . In 1991 he retired.

He was a co-founder and since its founding 1971 to 2012 board member of the Social Peace Service Bremen and from 1971 to 2003 chairman of the Central Office for Law and Protection of Conscientious Objectors (Zentralstelle KDV). From its establishment in March 1974 to 2004, he was a member of the advisory board for community service . In 1979 he was a co-founder of the Gustav Heinemann Initiative , on whose federal board he worked for years.

On June 23, 1984 he received the Fritz Bauer Prize of the Humanist Union . In 2012 he was honored by the Bremen Senate with a Senate reception.

One of Finckh's daughters is the SPD politician Ute Finckh-Krämer .
