Ulrich I von Ortenburg († November 19, 1455 ) was the eldest son of Count Alram I von Ortenburg and Barbara von Rottau. It comes from the Lower Bavarian imperial count house of the Ortenburgers . Ulrich I was a Catholic clergyman and, among other things, Canon of Passau and Regensburg, Provost of Passau and Archdeacon of Mattsee .

Live and act

On November 1, 1414, Ulrich I was first mentioned in a document as Canon of Passau with the degree of subdeacon . A year later on September 2nd, 1415 he was named as Canon of Regensburg and Pastor of St. Florian - Schärding . After all, on December 16, 1417, he was pastor in Linz . On July 12, 1421 Ulrich I appears as Archdeacon of Mattsee . In 1423 and 1424 Ulrich was involved in the Passau diocese dispute. After the death of Bishop Georg von Hohenlohe on August 8, 1423, a controversial double election for the office of Bishop of Passau took place on September 10 . In this Leonhard von Laiming determined and Ulrich I as Bishop of Passau. Ulrich was among others by Duke Albrecht III. supported by Bayern-Munich and his uncle Count Etzel von Ortenburg as Vice-Vice-Chancellor of the Duchy of Bayern-Straubing . The dispute was only settled on January 10, 1424 through intervention by Pope Martin V , who confirmed Leonhard von Laiming as bishop. On November 15, 1427 Ulrich I received the benefices as the cathedral cholaster of Olomouc .

At the end of April 1440 Ulrich I became provost of the cathedral in Passau. Ulrich held this office until his death. From January 30, 1445 to August 12, 1450, he can also be verified as the owner of the Passau Cathedral Chapter Alms Office Wendling . Ulrich I founded an "eternal history" and 25 soul masses on June 30, 1447, which could be read on 25 altars of the Passau Cathedral , the cloister and the attached chapels. On February 21, 1454 he gave the benefice of the pastor to Raab near Schärding, when he received it is unknown.

Ulrich I died on November 19, 1455 and was buried in the Sixtus Chapel in Passau.
