Ulrich Jonath (born June 25, 1926 in Hamm ) is a former German athletics trainer, lecturer at the German Sport University in Cologne and editor and author of specialist literature.

Life

As a track and field athlete Arthur Jonath's nephew was German runner-up in 1949 with the 4 x 100 meter relay of Hammer SpVg . After studying sports with Carl Diem and first teaching stations, including in South America, where he organized the establishment of a national sports institute from 1954 onwards, Jonath was national coach for the 400-meter hurdles from 1959 to 1980 . In this discipline he supervised numerous German athletes and led them to successes at the Olympic Games:

In the finals of the German Championships in 1972, the runners he trained Büttner , Schubert, Ziegler and Reibert achieved times between 49.21 and 49.66 seconds.

The Carl Diem Prize, awarded by the German Athletics Association in 1979, was returned to the DLV in 2001 by Jonath because the association was critical of Diem.

Jonath is the editor of specialist books on the subject of athletics and training theory.
