Ulrich Körner

Ulrich Körner (born October 25, 1962 ) is a German-Swiss manager . He is President Asset Management of UBS Group AG and President UBS EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), as well as a member of the Group Executive Board of UBS Group AG.

education

After attending the Gerhardt-Hauptmann School in Freiburg im Breisgau from 1969 to 1973, he switched to the State Ludwigsgymnasium in Saarbrücken , which he completed in 1980 by passing the Abitur examination. He then attended the international boarding school, the Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz , near St. Moritz in the Engadin from 1980 to 1983 , where he obtained a type B Matura .

Since 1983, Körner studied business administration at the University of St. Gallen , specializing in banking , and graduated in 1988 with the title lic. oec. and Master of Arts. Immediately afterwards he began his doctoral studies and finally received his doctorate in 1993 at the University of St. Gallen with the title Dr. oec.

Career

After completing his studies, he began his professional career as an auditor at Price Waterhouse in Zurich in 1989 . From 1993 to 1998, Körner worked as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company in Zurich. In 1998, Körner moved to Credit Suisse as Chief Financial Officer for Switzerland and two years later became Head of Technology and Services, before taking on the role of Chief Financial Officer at Credit Suisse in 2002. In addition to this role, he became Chief Operating Officer in 2004 . In 2006 he took on the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Credit Suisse Switzerland, where he was a member of the Executive Board of Credit Suisse until he moved to UBS in April 2009.

In April 2009, Körner joined UBS as Group Chief Operating Officer and member of the Group Executive Board. In his role as Group Chief Operating Officer, he was responsible for the Corporate Center with more than 25,000 employees until 2013, which at that time was responsible for Group Strategy, Human Resources , Group Technology, Group Operations, Communications and Branding, Corporate Real Estate and Administrative Services and Supply and Demand Management included. This function was newly created when Körner took office.

Körner has been President UBS EMEA since December 2011 (previously CEO UBS Group Europe, Middle East and Africa), with offices in 29 countries. Together with the divisional Chief Executive Officers, he is responsible for the implementation of the regional strategy and the cooperation between all divisions. In January 2014, Körner became President and Head of Asset Management at UBS AG, while Tom Naratil, in addition to his role as Chief Financial Officer, took on the role of Chief Operating Officer. In the first year, the business unit acquired from Körner recorded its best result since 2009. Since November 2014, he has been President Asset Management of UBS Group AG . In spring 2020, Körner will leave UBS after having worked as Senior Advisor to the Group CEO at the second major Swiss bank at the end of his decade.

Ulrich Körner is President of the Widder Hotel in Zurich and Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz . Furthermore, he Supervisory Board member of the UBS Europe SE, president of the Foundation Board of the UBS Pension Fund , member of the Foundation Board of the UBS Optimus Foundation, the Financial Service Chapter Board of the Swiss-American Chamber of Commerce, the Advisory Board at the Institute of Banking and Finance at the University of Zurich and the Economic Advisory Board of the Laureus Foundation Switzerland.

He was a member of the board of directors of the Winterthur Group , AXA Leben AG and AXA Versicherungen AG, as well as Clariden Leu AG and Bank Leu AG. Until 2014 he was Vice Chairman of the Board Committee of the Swiss Bankers Association . As a representative of UBS, he advised Swiss politicians on both the splitting of the big banks and the strategy for the future of the Swiss financial center .

Private life

Ulrich Körner was born in Germany in 1962 and has both German and Swiss citizenship. He lives in Zurich and has three children.
