Ulrich Koehler

Ulrich Koehler (born December 26, 1954 in Meersburg ) is a German politician ( FDP ).

Life and work

Ulrich Koehler studied in Tübingen and passed his second exam to become a fully qualified lawyer in Ulm . Until 1992 he worked as the state manager of the FDP in Lower Saxony . In April 1992 he moved to the service of the state of Saxony-Anhalt, which was then governed by a coalition of the CDU and FDP. In the Ministry for the Environment and Nature Conservation and from 2000 in the Ministry for Spatial Planning, Agriculture and Environment, he was department head for central affairs - budget, personnel, organization - and finally from 2000 head of the department for water management, contaminated sites, genetic engineering and environmental education. In May 2002 he became State Secretary in the Ministry of Finance of the State of Saxony-Anhalt under Finance Minister Karl-Heinz Paqué .

From June to September 2006 Koehler worked for a management consultancy after leaving the service of the state of Saxony-Anhalt. Since November 2006 he has been an independent lawyer in Magdeburg in the law firm Ulrich Koehler , which he founded and which he has been building up since June 2007.

Ulrich Koehler is married to Gisela Gerling-Koehler, who was Mayor of Glindenberg in the Börde district until 2009 , and has three children.

Political party

Koehler has been a member of the FDP since his youth . He was a founding member of the Young Liberals and, in the 1980s, their deputy chairman with the “Finance” division under Guido Westerwelle .

Ulrich Koehler ran for the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg in 1981 and for the German Bundestag in the constituency of the Bundestag constituency of Backnang - Schwäbisch Gmünd in 1987 . He has held a large number of offices in the FDP. From 2003 to 2009 he was district chairman of the FDP district association Magdeburg. Ulrich Koehler is chairman of the state committee “Interior, Law and Europe” as well as a member of the federal committee “Interior and Legal Policy” of the FDP.

Ulrich Koehler received 6.6% of the first votes in the 2009 federal election on September 27, 2009 in the Magdeburg constituency (constituency 70).

Public offices

After the change of government in 2002, Koehler was appointed State Secretary in the Ministry of Finance of the State of Saxony-Anhalt. His duties included u. a. the establishment of the State Office for Property and Real Estate Management Saxony-Anhalt (LIMSA). Koehler was characterized in the regional press as an "unorthodox public servant"; his style of work was controversial. While on the one hand his rousing manner and open ear were appreciated, others criticized a lack of care and a shirt-sleeved style. After the black-red coalition was formed in 2006 , Koehler resigned from his office.
