Ulrich Schreiber (Author)

Ulrich Schreiber (born February 2, 1936 in Essen , † June 14, 2007 in Düsseldorf ) was a German music and theater critic and author.

Life

Schreiber studied literature and philosophy. Since the mid-1960s, Schreiber has been active as a critic and record reviewer. He was for many large radio companies, several specialist magazines such as "Critique", "HiFi-Stereophonie", " Merkur ", "Musica", " Opernwelt " and newspapers such as the Handelsblatt , the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , the Frankfurter Rundschau and the Düsseldorfer Rheinische Post operates. He was a member of the jury of the German Record Critics and was a juror for the Association of German Critics, the Prix Mondial du Disque and the Berlin Theatertreffen. In 1999, Schreiber was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Bergische Universität Wuppertal .

Schreiber also became known as the author of the five-volume standard work “Opera Guide for Advanced Students”. He also worked on the “Handbuch des Deutschen Dramas” and manuals on Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , Franz Schubert and Giuseppe Verdi . Not to forget his “Schallplatten-Klassik / Auslese”, a critical guide for the collector, Verlag G.Braun , Karlsruhe, 1978-80.

Ulrich Schreiber died in 2007 of complications from cancer. His estate of around 6,500 CDs was bequeathed to the Bergische Universität in February 2014.
