Ulrich von Tegerfelden

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ulrich von Tegerfelden († April 12 between 1200 and 1204 in St. Gallen ) was Bishop of Chur and Abbot of St. Gallen .

Life

Ulrich comes from the Aargau family of Barons von Tegerfelden , his nephew Konrad was Bishop of Constance . He was provost from 1166 to 1167 and abbot in Sankt Gallen from 1167. He was elected Bishop of Chur in 1170, but retained his office as abbot. During his tenure, the construction of the new cathedral began, the choir of which was consecrated in 1178 by Bishop Berno von Schwerin . After the 3rd Lateran Council had spoken out against the accumulation of church offices, he renounced the diocese of Chur in 1179, but remained abbot of St. Gallen. As abbot of St. Gallen in 1187 he renewed the existing prayer fraternity with the Archbishopric of Mainz . In 1199, shortly before his death, he also renounced his abbot status. He died on April 12, the exact year of his death is unknown. Ulrich was probably never ordained bishop, which is also indicated by the consecration of the cathedral by Berno.
