The ships of the ULSTEIN SX175 series (also called Windea La Cour class after their type ship ) are diesel-electric powered offshore service ships which were delivered in 2016 and 2017
history
The Windea La Cour was ordered from the Norwegian Ulstein shipyard on January 9, 2015 . The hull was built at the Crist shipyard in Poland and the equipment and testing took place at the Ulstein shipyard. The delivery to BS Offshore, the offshore division founded in 2015 by Bernhard Schulte, will take place on June 23, 2016. In 2017 the sister ship Windea Leibniz was delivered . The ships are managed by Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement. It is used as part of the joint venture WINDEA Offshore GmbH & Co. KG , a joint venture between Schulte and the Buss Group and EMS Maritime Offshore GmbH .
The ships sailing under the German flag were designed for use as a transfer ship for maintenance work in offshore wind farms . The special shape of the hull and the round bow known as the " X-Bow " are particularly suitable for use in the rough North Sea .
In 2020, the Windea Jules Verne, a ship 5 meters longer but similar in design (type designation Ulstein SX195) was put into service.
description
The ships are around 88 m long, 18.6 m wide and have a draft of 6.4 m. The ballast tanks hold 2370 m³.
To power these diesel-electric driven ships four medium-speed four-stroke serve diesel engines of the type Caterpillar 3512 with a total of 7,060 kW power . The electrical power acts on the drives via frequency converters. A total of four propulsion thrusters, three maneuver thrusters and a thruster that can be pulled out under the fuselage were installed to meet the requirements for dynamic positioning (DP 2). A total of 60 individual cabins are available on board.
commitment
The special ship, also known as the Service Operations Vessel (SOV), will be used by Siemens for the Gemini and Sandbank offshore wind farms far from the coast and will be stationed on site for around 30 days. In addition to the ship's crew, there are service technicians on board , who are equipped with the necessary tools and spare parts from here. Depending on the mission and the weather, the technicians are brought to the towers in 12-meter-long daughter boats or can go directly to the landing platforms of the towers on which the wind turbines are located via a special, hydraulically stabilized gangway .
