The red-brown or umber- brown bristle disk ( Hymenochaete rubiginosa ) is a mushroom species from the family of bristle disk relatives (Hymenochaetaceae). It forms umber-brown , hat-shaped fruiting bodies all year round , which preferably grow on the bark of oaks ( Quercus spp.). Its distribution area includes the meridional to temperate Holarctic and New Zealand .
features
Macroscopic features
The umber-brown bristle disk has cone-shaped, wavy hats 1–5 cm wide. They protrude diagonally downwards from the substrate and are often joined together in rows or like roof tiles. A small stalk approach rarely forms at the base. The gray-brown top of the hat is zoned and finely felted, the edge is sharp and lighter than the umber-brown hymenium. The fruit layer itself is occasionally occupied by small warts.
Microscopic features
The umber-brown bristle disk has brown sets of 40–60 × 5–7 µm in the fruit layer . Its hyaline to light brown hyphae are 3–4 µm wide and simply septate. It has four-pore basidia , 20–35 × 3–5 µm in size . The hyaline spores of the umber-brown bristle disc are around 3.5–5.5 × 2–3 µm in size and are narrowly ellipsoidal to slightly curved. He has a monomitic trama and unbuckled septa .
distribution
The known distribution of the species includes the meridional to temperate Holarctic and New Zealand , where it was introduced.
ecology
The umber-brown bristle disk forms fruiting bodies all year round, which grow almost exclusively on oaks ( Quercus spp.). The species is rarely found on sweet chestnuts ( Castanea vesca ). Preferred locations are mixed forests, parks and gardens on sheltered, sunny slopes. The higher the location, the more likely it is to be found on lime-rich baddies.
