The sea rescue boat (SRB) Umma was a 7-meter class boat of the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People (DGzRS).
The boat was originally not intended for use as a lifeboat, but was built in 1981 under the name Anna as a daughter boat of the rescue cruiser Fritz Behrens from the Schweers shipyard in Berne-Bardenfleth under the construction number 6443 with the DGzRS internal designation KRT 13.
The Umma had with 68 HP a slightly higher engine power than its equipped with a 54 hp engine payable predecessor in this boat class.
Naming
Umma and Eltje (this name was used by the boat from October 1992) are Frisian women’s names and express the attachment of the DGzRS to the German coast and its inhabitants.
Technical Equipment
The boat was equipped with radio systems, echo sounder , radar , GPS , external bilge pump and a rescue port.
Stationings
By replacing Fritz Behrens' daughter boat with a stronger one, Anna became free. In February 1990 the boat was renamed Umma and relocated as SRB to the DGzRS station in Damp . In October 1992 it was relocated to Lippe / Weißenhaus ( Behrensdorf (Baltic Sea) ) and was renamed Eltje at the same time . The ship's service there ended in September 1993. After a break in operation, it was relocated to Schleswig on March 1, 1994 . The last transfer to the Schilksee station took place on September 16, 1999 , where the boat ended active service in June 2003. The DGzRS decided the final decommissioning in September 2003.
Whereabouts
Since September 2003 the boat has been exhibited in the North Friesland Maritime Museum in Husum .
