Unicode block superscripts and subscripts

The Unicode block high and subscript characters (Engl. Superscripts and subscripts, U + 2070 to U + 209f) provides letters, numbers and mathematical signs, often in various scientific notations high or subscript must be. In this way z. B. Formulas such as H 2 O, Na + MoO 4 - without changes at the level of the font , i.e. also in Unicode-coded plain text , can be written: H₂O, Na⁺MoO₄⁻ (without Unicode there would be only H2O, Na + MoO4- possible). The characters were included for compatibility reasons and are not intended to offer as self-contained support as possible.

The superscript digits 1, 2, and 3, (¹, ², ³) as well as superscript a (ª) and superscript o (º), which are already contained in ISO 8859-1 , are in the Unicode block Latin-1, supplement .

The subscripts i, r, u and v (ᵢ ᵣ ᵤ ᵥ) are in the Unicode block Phonetic Extensions .
