The University of Hyderabad ( Hindi : हैदराबाद विश्वविद्यालय) is a state university located about 20 km from the center of Hyderabad in Gachibowli in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh .
The university employs 250 professors (and other teaching staff) and there are currently around 3,500 students. With a few exceptions in the philology, the language of instruction is English.
It is not to be confused with two other well-known universities in Hyderabad, Osmania University and Maulana Azad Urdu National University .
history
The university was founded as Central University in 1974 by resolution of the Indian Parliament . It is one of only 18 state universities to date, because the universities in India are usually subordinate to the respective state.
Although some undergraduate courses have also been introduced in recent years, the focus of the degrees on offer is still on the postgraduate level with Master of Philosophy , Master of Arts , Ph. D. and PG Diplomas .
Academic reputation
The university is one of the leading educational institutions (along with four other universities with the title With Potential for Excellence ) in the country and occupies top positions in current rankings. On March 28, 2008, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an independent institution of the Funding Committee of Indian universities, awarded it the highest rating ever given, 3.89 (on a scale of 4.0), with it as part of the investigation a wide range of curricula to research and infrastructure was considered.
Many lecturers have experience abroad through studies or guest stays. The proximity to the districts Jubilee Hills and Hi-Tec City , which are particularly flourishing in information technology, ensures good conditions for a productive connection between science and industry or companies.
Campus and facilities
Among many specialized institutions, the University Library ( Indira Gandhi Memorial Library ) deserves special mention, which was the first to be digitized in India. The Computer Center , established in 1985, is one of the most progressive at an Indian university. The Central Instruments Laboratory (CIL) has existed for special equipment since 1979 .
In addition to shopping facilities for everyday needs and a health care center, there is also a post office on campus.
There are slightly more than a dozen hostels (including an International Students Hostel and the SIP Guest House ), but they are currently being expanded due to the increasing number of students.
The landscape of the campus with several lakes as well as hills and dense jungle offer a calm atmosphere in the middle of nature. All kinds of animals such as wild boars, water buffalo, peacocks and snakes can be observed.
