An underground tank is an underground tank with aboveground throw for collecting waste or recyclables .

description

An underfloor container is an alternative and inconspicuous variant for collecting municipal waste such as waste paper , biowaste and residual waste or for recyclable materials . The underfloor containers themselves are made of metal , are provided with graffiti and impact protection and each sit in a concrete tub underground . The installation of 4 units requires a construction pit 10 meters long and 3 meters wide.

The other advantages are that the garbage disposal can be done barrier-free also for wheelchair users or people with a rollator , children and short people can use the system and there is only little noise when throwing the garbage as well as when emptying underground bins without rattling or Rattle comes. The disposal of three units takes about 4 minutes using a crane truck and does not require any physical effort from the garbage collectors . The conventional capacity of 11,000 liters can be covered by three underfloor containers. The slot can be secured with a lock to prevent use by third parties.

The disadvantages of underground containers are that these containers are expensive to purchase and a number of requirements must be met in order to be able to build underground containers, as well as preparatory work such as excavation , crane work and possibly cable laying.

The basic conditions for the installation and operation of this type of waste container vary in Germany from state to state.

There are different models of underfloor containers from different manufacturers.

Local and regional regulations

Situation in Hamburg

The Senate appoints as prerequisites for the installation of underground tanks at potential sites that the proportion of the bag removal of waste unless, applicable for the relevant area, should be very high that the management freedom must be largely given in the planned area that the safety and efficiency of traffic (including bicycle and pedestrian traffic) must be guaranteed, that the ground must be paved and suitable for loads of at least 26 tons, that no parking spaces are lost, that safe access for the city cleaning crane vehicle must be guaranteed (maximum 8.5 m distance and at least 8 m clearance height in the area of crane work) that building openings (windows and doors) must be sufficiently distant. Locations in the root area of trees are generally not permitted. Only if the above criteria are met will a line request be made prior to a suitability agreement with the responsible district office and the responsible police station. There are 283 underground containers in Hamburg (as of April 2014).
