Untergimpern, like the neighboring Obergimpern, is located in the valley of the Krebsbach , with the prefixes Ober- and Unter- each referring to the location in the valley. The more important place was Obergimpern, which was first mentioned in 1355 and where the parish church of the Untergimpern branch was also located. Untergimpern was first mentioned in 1359 with the sale of goods to Obern Guntbure and to nidern Guntbure of the nobleman Rafen von Fürfeld to Engelhard von Hirschhorn . The Hirschhorn estates covered no more than a quarter of the town and were Palatinate fiefs. The rest of the place belonged to the Lords of Strahlberg , who sold the castle and village to Count Palatine Ruprecht I in 1368 , who enfeoffed the Lords of Helmstatt .

A chapel already existed in Untergimpern in the 15th century. The Lords of Helmstatt carried out the Reformation in Ober- and Untergimpern in 1527 . The place was not walled, and so during the Thirty Years' War and during the French invasions in the Palatinate War of Succession at the end of the 17th century , the citizens fled to Neckarbischofsheim , down the valley on the Krebsbach , the seat of the main line of the Helmstatt, which had been expanded into a town.

After the Obergimpern line of those von Helmstatt died out in 1685, Elector Johann Wilhelm enfeoffed the Catholic privy councilor and court chancellor Johann Ferdinand Yrsch with what was formerly Helmstatt's share. The barons and later Counts von Yrsch carried out a re-Catholicization of their property and let the church in Obergimpern be used as a simultaneous church . After the Lords of Hirschhorn died out in 1632, the Hirschhorn fief was withdrawn by the Elector and given to the Barons of Wiser in 1698 . A dispute between the Counts of Wiser and the Counts of Yrsch over jurisdiction in the villages in 1793 was no longer settled, as Ober- and Untergimpern came to the Principality of Leiningen in 1803 and to the Grand Duchy of Baden as a result of the Napoleonic Wars .

From 1807 Untergimpern belonged to the Oberamt Waibstadt , from 1810 to the District Office Neckarbischofsheim . The subdivision of Untergimpern, which mainly comprises the fields to the west of the village and the Eulenberg to the east of the Wagenbacher Hof, was around 230 hectares in 1888. In 1847 the town had a maximum population of around 560 inhabitants, which would decrease by over 100 people over the next hundred years due to constant emigration.

In 1902 Untergimpern was connected to the railway network via the Krebsbachtalbahn , but the place remained agricultural. In addition, until the quarries began to close in the 1950s, only the mining of limestone and sandstone was economically significant. In 1939 Untergimpern still had 442 inhabitants, at the end of 1945 there were 496. On January 1, 1971, the place was incorporated into Neckarbischofsheim.

The company Tele-Quarz , founded in 1974, created around 320 jobs in Untergimpern up to 1988, while the population grew to 570.

religion

Untergimpern was originally a branch church of Obergimpern. Both places were reformed in 1527 by the Lords of Helmstatt. Under the Lords of Yrsch, the place was partially re-Catholicized from the late 17th century. In the middle of the 19th century there were only around 100 Protestants, while the Catholic population was almost four times as large. A Catholic church had existed on site since the middle of the 18th century, was demolished in 1887 and replaced by a new building in another location from 1894. In 1869 the first Protestant church was built, which was renovated in 1897. A local Jewish community existed from 1800 at the latest and built a synagogue in 1807. By the middle of the 19th century, the community had grown to 55 people, who had all died or emigrated by 1900.
