useful information

After Bill Berry left , various drummers took his place for the recordings, but without becoming a permanent member of the band. Up was the first album the band for Green (1988), which topped the charts in the UK missed.

reception

Stephen Thomas Erlewine from Allmusic wrote that Up sounds like REM even without the guitars, even if REM wanted to be adventurous and hip. In a way, this is a good thing, because it shows that the band have developed their own sound that is more elastic than many had predicted. Many of the pieces are "easy to admire, but difficult to love." He awarded two and a half stars out of five. With increasing distance, however, the judgment of the music critics was increasingly positive; For example, the German edition of Rolling Stone awarded the album five out of five stars in 2013 for the fifteenth anniversary of the album.
