Uri Geller Live: UFOs and Aliens - The Unbelievable TV Experiment is a TV show broadcast on ProSieben on November 15, 2008 about the mentalist Uri Geller , who attempted to contact extraterrestrial life forms through telepathy . Numerous prominent guests were also present, including Erich von Däniken , Vincent Raven and Nina Hagen . The show was moderated by Stefan Gödde and Verena Wriedt .
To illustrate various scenes from the history of ufology and ancient astronaut hypothesis were computer animations and uses professionally staged reenactments.
The show was criticized as a miserable, commercial failure, which is why no originally planned new edition of the TV experiment took place.
Concept and process
The three-hour show was Geller's next major appearance in Germany after his casting show The next Uri Geller - Incredible Phenomena Live on ProSieben in March of the same year . It was moderated by Stefan Gödde and broadcast live on ProSieben on Saturday, November 16, 2008 at prime time at 8:15 pm. In the PR campaign accompanying the program, ProSieben described Geller as the world's greatest “mystifier”.
At the beginning, UFO videos are analyzed, some of which are classified as authentic. In the further course of the show, several such videos are sent by viewers, which are also rated by various guests.
A radio telescope is then switched to Yevpatoria in Ukraine , where some of the most important scientists in Europe , according to ProSieben, are located. There Daniel Aminati took over the moderation. From there, messages from the audience will later be sent into space .
An initial experiment is conducted in which the viewer is asked to focus on a colored circle on the screen and draw what they see. Among other things , Geller interprets peace signs and hearts as telepathic messages from extraterrestrials.
Nina Hagen arrives. She brings a cable from Roswell (New Mexico) with which a man is said to have already defended himself against aliens. Calling viewers report " strange lights in the sky " before the radio telescope in Ukraine sends the news. It is shown graphically how the radio waves leave the earth.
The controversial pre-astronautics researcher and successful author Erich von Däniken arrives.
Something unusual is happening in Ukraine, it is almost scary, suggests moderator Daniel Aminati. An unusual signal is received from an Italian radio system, from which scientists commissioned by ProSieben report. It turns out that the signal is of earthly origin.
After Erich von Däniken illustrated his theses in the area of pre-astronautics with the help of computer animations and Vincent Raven made contact with the afterlife , two people who are allegedly regularly abducted by aliens report on their experiences and undergo live hypnosis .
Finally, an audience survey will be carried out with the result that 93% of the audience believe that intelligent extraterrestrial beings visit the earth. A result that does not seem surprising in view of the target audience of mostly UFO-minded viewers.

The show achieved rather low audience ratings and with a 4.8% market share and 1.4 million viewers remained just below the average market share of PRO7.
Uri Geller Live: UFOs and Aliens - The incredible TV experiment received mostly bad to very bad reviews. The show is an "alien rotten meat scandal," says UFO skeptic Werner Walter . Uri Geller and his show have been heavily criticized. “Extra-terrestrial underground” was the headline in the November 16 issue of Der Spiegel .
In the same year Uri Geller Live: UFOs and Aliens was awarded the “Golden Günter”, a negative award from the website DWDL.de , an online media magazine , for “Debacle of the Year”.
Due to the enormous criticism of the show and numerous letters to him, Erich von Däniken distanced himself from the show at the beginning of 2009 in the magazine Sagenliche Zeiten of his research company for archeology, astronautics and SETI and stated his point of view in it.
