The Ursus is a RoRo heavy lift ship operated by the Berliner Hafen- und Lagerhausgesellschaft (BEHALA). The Light is primarily for the transportation of gas turbines from Siemens - gas turbine plant in Berlin-Moabit used.

history

The lighter was developed by BEHALA and the Technical University of Berlin and built in 2012 by the Erlenbacher Schiffswerft Maschinen- und Stahlbau under construction number 1173. The 34.9 meter long middle section of the lighter was built at the Santierul Naval shipyard in Orșova , Romania , and later joined to the fore and aft section at the Erlenbach shipyard. The lighter was delivered to BEHALA on September 14, 2012.

description

The RoRo heavy lift lighter Ursus is 64.50 meters long and 9.50 meters wide and is specially designed for Berlin's waterways. The maximum draft is 3.50 meters, the side height is 4.70 meters and the load capacity is 1200 tons. The lighter is equipped with two diesel generators with 75 kVA and 400 kVA apparent power. The diesel generators generate the electricity for the bow thruster, which can be rotated 360 degrees and has a nominal output of 265 kW, and the two ballast pumps. The lighter is equipped with eight ballast tanks with a capacity of 820 tons, which can be used for loading and unloading in order to keep the difference in height between the lighter and the ramp on the land side as low as possible. They can also be flooded to lower the lighter so that low bridges can be passed when transporting high goods. A crane with a lifting force of 25 t at the bow of the barge is used to lay out the ramp and other loads. The previous location of the Ursus is Berlin's Westhafen . The lighter is approved for federal waterways up to zone 2.

BEHALA uses the lighter for the transport of heavy piece goods, in particular gas turbines from the Siemens gas turbine plant in Berlin-Moabit. For this purpose, a RoRo ramp was built on the Charlottenburg connecting canal, which is only a few hundred meters from the gas turbine plant, via which the lighter can be loaded. The groundbreaking for the construction of the RoRo ramp took place on March 14, 2012, and was inaugurated on October 31, 2012 with the first loading of a type SGT5-8000H gas turbine onto the heavy lift lighter Ursus . Loading onto the barge via the RoRo ramp simplifies the transport of the gas turbines, which previously had to be transported several kilometers by road to Berlin's Westhafen, and makes it possible for the SGT5-8000H gas turbines in the first place, as they are due to their weight of 440 tons could not have been transported over the road to Berlin's Westhafen due to weight restrictions on the route.
