Uwe Barth (born July 23, 1964 in Bad Langensalza ) is a German politician ( FDP ). From 2003 to 2014 he was state chairman of the FDP in Thuringia and from 2013 to 2015 one of three deputy federal chairmen of the FDP. From 2009 to 2014 he was chairman of the FDP parliamentary group in the Thuringian state parliament .

Life and work

After graduating from the Advanced High School in Auerbach / Vogtland in 1983 , Barth did his military service and began studying physics at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena in 1986 , which he completed in 1993 with a degree in physics. He was then the personal advisor to the Thuringian Minister for Environment and Regional Planning until 1994. After working for several years in the pollution control department of the Thuringian Ministry of Agriculture, Nature Conservation and Environment , he worked at the State Environmental Protection Agency in Erfurt , most recently as head of the pollution control , waste management and chemical safety department.

Uwe Barth is married and has two children.

politics

In 1986 Barth became a member of the LDPD . During the fall of the Berlin Wall he was one of the founders of the Young Liberal Action Thuringia, the liberal youth organization in Thuringia. After he was first elected deputy chairman in 2002, Barth became regional chairman of the FDP Thuringia on November 29, 2003 . From 2003 to 2013 he was a member of the FDP federal executive committee .

Barth was the FDP's top candidate for the state elections in Thuringia in 2004 , in which the FDP only achieved 3.6% and thus did not move into the state parliament.

After the federal election in 2005 , Barth became a member of the German Bundestag via the FDP state list . Since then he has been chairman of parliamentary group VI for innovation, social policy and culture. He was also spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group for universities . In the Bundestag constituency Gera - Jena - Saale-Holzland-Kreis , he received 5.9% of the vote. He was a member of the German Bundestag until September 27, 2009.

In the state elections in Thuringia in 2009 , Barth was again the top candidate of the FDP. After 15 years, the party overcame the five percent hurdle again for the first time ; it received 7.6% of the vote and thus won seven state parliament mandates. In September 2009 Barth was elected chairman of the FDP parliamentary group. Since the extraordinary federal party conference of the FDP in December 2013, he has been one of three deputies of the federal chairman Christian Lindner together with Wolfgang Kubicki and Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann .

The 2014 state elections brought the Thuringian FDP back out of the state parliament, as a result of which Barth, who was his party's top candidate for the third time, also lost his mandate. At the state party conference on November 22, 2014, he waived re-election as state chairman. Franka Hitzing became the new state chairwoman .

At the federal party conference on May 15, 2015 in Berlin, he decided not to run as deputy federal chairman. He was followed by Katja Suding after.
