Uwe Claussen (born April 30, 1945 in Flaberg , Gummersbach ; † July 20, 2008 in Münchenroda near Jena ) was a German physician and human geneticist .

Life

Uwe Claussen studied human medicine at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf from 1966 to 1971 . In 1972, after completing the dissertation “On the teratogenic effects of 6-amino-nicotinic acid amide in rabbits after injection into the yolk sac”, he was awarded a Dr. med. PhD and then worked at the Institute for Human Genetics and Anthropology at the University of Düsseldorf; his laboratory manager for prenatal diagnostics from 1975 to 1985. In 1980 he completed his habilitation in Düsseldorf with the habilitation thesis "Comparative studies on the embryotoxic active principle of cyclophosphamide in rabbits" . In 1981 he held a teaching position in the department of biology at the University of Wuppertal .

In 1985 he was appointed Academic Senior Councilor; 1986 as adjunct professor at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg . After a research stay at St. Mary's Hospital Medical School in London , he became director of the laboratory for post and prenatal diagnostics at the Institute for Human Genetics at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. In 1993 he moved to the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena as full professor of human genetics and anthropology ; at the same time he became director of the Institute for Human Genetics and Anthropology.

Uwe Claussen was considered one of the best German balloon pilots and has held various records for a long time, such as the distances covered (674.5 km / 1984) and heights (9447 m / 1985) in a hot air balloon.

Act

Claussen's main research areas were tumor genetics , cytogenetics , human genetics , molecular genetics and teratology . He published numerous scientific papers in these areas. He was represented on several scientific advisory boards, including the specialist journal “ medical genetics ”.

Claussen is involved in several scientific societies, including the German Society for Human Genetics (GfH) , the German Society for Neurogenetics , the European Society of Human Genetics (ESHG) and the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) .
