Uwe Schröder (architect)

Uwe Schröder (born July 6, 1964 in Bonn ) is a German architect and university professor at the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule in Aachen .

Life

After completing an apprenticeship as a draftsman, Schröder began studying architecture at RWTH Aachen University in 1986 . During this time he worked from 1988 to 1990 with Oswald Mathias Ungers in Cologne, Frankfurt and Berlin. From 1991 to 1992 he studied with Ungers as a guest at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . He graduated from the RWTH Aachen with Wolfgang Döring in 1992 . In 1992, Laurids Ortner completed a postgraduate course in architecture at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, which he graduated in 1995 with the distinction of “master class”.

He founded his own architecture office in Bonn in 1993. After teaching assignments at the Bochum University of Applied Sciences (2000-02) and as a professor's representative at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences (2003-04), he taught there from 2004 to 2008 as a full professor for “Design and Architectural Theory”. With a scholarship from the German Academy Rome Villa Massimo , a study visit to Olevano Romano ( Casa Baldi ) followed in 2006 . In 2008 he accepted a position at the Faculty of Architecture at RWTH Aachen University and has been a university professor in the teaching and research area of ​​interior design ever since. As a visiting professor he taught at the Università di Bologna (2009-2010), at the Università degli Studi di Napoli "Federico II" (2016), at the Politecnico di Bari (2016), at the Università degli Studi di Catania (2018) and on Politecnico di Milano (2018-2019). Since 2017 he has been the initiator (together with H. Schneider) of the annual Aachen conference "Identity of Architecture".

Schröder has been a member of the North Rhine-Westphalia Chamber of Architects (since 1994), the Association of German Architects BDA (since 1996), the editorial board of the BDA magazine "der architekt" (since 2000) and the German Werkbund Berlin (since 2014).
