Weidle publishing house

The Weidle publisher is a literary and art publisher based in Bonn . It was founded in 1993 by Stefan Weidle.

History and program

When it was founded, the publishing house was primarily concerned with the publication and printing of manuscripts from emigrants who had to leave Germany at the time of National Socialism . In addition to the literary works, autobiographies of the emigrants and corresponding non-fiction books are also published. Since 2008 there has been an agreement between Weidle Verlag and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia according to which the publisher translates and publishes two literary works from French per year with financial support from North Rhine-Westphalia. Through the cooperation, u. a. the books Pssst! A childhood story by Raymond Federman , breakfast with Mick Jagger by Nathalie Kuperman, butler friend of Jérôme Lafargue and 628-E8 by Octave Mirbeau . Stefan Weidle acted as translator.

Another focus of the publisher's program is exile literature from the 1920s and 1930s. The authors include a. Friedrich Hollaender , Curt Siodmak , Heinrich Hauser , Albrecht Schaeffer , Salamon Dembitzer , Hermann Borchardt , Heinrich Hauser . Three books on Gustav Mahler and his family and two titles by DH Lawrence were also published .

Contemporary literature is represented in the publishing program by writings by Hanne Kulessa , Johannes Muggenthaler , Otto A. Böhmer , Jörg W. Gronius , Wolfgang Kubin and Carl Nixon , whose novel Settlers Creek was published in September 2013. Weidle Verlag has also published art catalogs since 1998, for example Katharina Hinsberg Hors-Champ , Rainer Gross Twins 1997–1998 , Eve Aschheim Paintings and Drawings , Pat Steir Flimmerndes Wasser, Flimmering Licht , Malte Spohr drawings and photographs and also Martin Noël pictures and drawings . Another special feature of the publishing house is the collaboration between the publishing house and the artists in the design of the book covers. For the covers of Johannes Muggenthaler's books, for example, photographs of the author and artist were used.

The publisher's productions are mainly carried out in cooperation with Friedrich Forssman as a book designer and typographer .

The publisher is a member of the German Book Trade Association .

Stefan Weidle was Chairman of the Executive Board of the Kurt Wolff Foundation until 2015 .
