Uwe Schröder (lawyer)

Uwe Schröder (born September 4, 1957 in Hanover ) is a German administrative lawyer and ministerial official . He has been Head of Department V of the Federal Ministry of Finance since January 2017 and was previously the first President of the General Customs Directorate.

Career

After graduating from the Ratsgymnasium Hannover in 1976 and completing two years of military service, Schröder studied law at the Universities of Göttingen and Zurich . In 1986 he passed the 2nd state examination in law.

In August 1986 he joined the Federal Customs Administration and initially worked in the customs department of the Cologne Regional Finance Directorate . In October 1986 he switched to the budget department of the Federal Ministry of Finance as a consultant . From 1995 to 1998 he was head of the budget policy and financial constitution in the Federal Chancellery .

After being appointed to the Ministerial Council , he returned to the Ministry of Finance as Head of Unit. In 2003 Schröder was promoted to ministerial director and at the same time appointed head of subdivision II C (federal social budget). Between 2006 and November 2011 he took on the same function in sub-division II A (fundamental issues of the federal budget) and finally, until the end of 2015, in sub-division VA (federal states, financial constitution).

With the establishment of the General Customs Directorate as part of the restructuring of the customs administration, he was given the office of President on January 1, 2016, to which he was introduced on February 1, 2016 by Federal Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble in a ceremony in the old waterworks .

At the beginning of 2017, Schröder again moved to the Federal Ministry of Finance and has since taken on the position of Head of Department V (Federal Financial Relations, State and Constitutional Law, Legal Affairs, Historians Commission).

In this function, he replaced Matthias Haß , who was appointed Saxon State Minister for Finance .

Schröder was a member of the administrative board of the Federal Employment Agency from 2002 to 2006 and a member of the supervisory board of Duisburger Hafen AG from 2008 to 2012 . From 2010 he held the office of chairman there .

From 2011 to 2012 he was also a member of the WestLB supervisory board .

Private

Schröder is married and has two children.
