Uwe Timm (born February 5, 1932 in Hamburg ; † March 7, 2014 in Barcelona ) was a German author of libertarian- oriented publications, an anti-militarist and co-editor of the libertarian magazine espero .

Life

In his childhood Timm experienced the totalitarian state power and authoritarian educational measures of the state authorities. About this he wrote: "We were the generation of cellar children, children who forgot to play, but were trained in a state in the" young people "in the field games". As the eldest son, family circumstances forced him to take on responsibility and to shape his life independently as a teenager.

In the 1940s, Timm made the acquaintance of the free thinker movement , the Free Spiritual Circle in Ahrensburg. For this group he organized courses and youth consecrations. As a group leader of the Hamburg cooperative youth , he worked in the editorial department of the cooperative youth letters and read the books of Robert Owen , later the writings of Silvio Gesell and Werner Zimmermann ; the latter was a co-founder of the former WIR cooperative (now WIR Bank ). Timm got to know the life reformer Zimmermann personally and also attended courses from the money reformer Hans Schumann. At the end of the war Timm got to know the opponent of National Socialism and supporter of the free economy Hermann Albert Prüss ; this was Timm's first political contact.

Timm completed an apprenticeship as a mechanical engineer and received further training as a technician and training as a technical businessman. He then worked as a designer in plant construction, released a works council, deputy works council chairman and spokesman for the personnel committee.

During his work at the youth cooperative, Uwe Timm came into contact with a Hamburg anarchist group. a. Otto Reimers belonged to and became familiar with the libertarian ideas of Erich Mühsam , Peter Kropotkin , Michael Bakunin and John Henry Mackay . At that time he took an active part in discussions on emergency laws , conscription and nuclear armament; Timm became a member of the International of War Service Opponents (IDK) at the suggestion of Wolfgang Borchert ; "W. Borchert was of special importance to us. [...] With his poem ' Say No ', he burned us in our hearts, to offer resistance in the future against everyone who wanted to uniformed people and to force them to kill and murder. Without a doubt, Borchert brought me to anti-militarism , with no ifs or buts. ”In 1958 Timm was active in the Action Group for Nonviolence and also took part in the Hamburg Easter marches. In 1987 Timm received the Peace Prize from the independent Karl Liebknecht working group for "35 years of commitment to a humane society". "Timm was honored for his decades of commitment in the trade union and peace movement [...]". The award was given to him “during a small celebration in the Turkish People's House”.

During these years he occupied himself with the works of the individualistic anarchist Kurt Zube and began to continue reading anarchism. In the magazine Strangely Free he wrote: “As an anarchist, I claim for myself the right to freely decide about myself without interfering with the rights of others. Anarchy and order do not contradict each other. Anarchy is just as much a concept of order as democracy or monarchy ”.

It was mainly the critical publications by Kurt Zube (pseudonym: KHZ Solneman) that convinced him. Uwe Timm got to know Zube personally and together with three other people they founded the Mackay Society in 1974, of which Timm was trustee from 1977 to 1984. Uwe Timm worked as a writer; he was co-editor of the libertarian magazine espero . In 1954 he had published the two magazines Mahnruf Junge Individualisten and, together with Willy Huppertz, The Young Anti-Authoritarian . The young anti-authoritarian appeared as a supplement to the magazine Liberation (Mülheim an der Ruhr).
