Václav Jansa, German Wenzel Jansa (born October 22, 1859 in German Zlatnik (Slatinice), Brüx district , Bohemia ; † June 29, 1913 in Černošice near Prague), was a Bohemian painter and draftsman .

Life

Jansa studied at the Art Academy in Prague with Antonín Lhota (1812–1908) and then at the Vienna Academy with Eduard von Lichtenfels and Leopold Carl Müller . From 1891 he worked in Prague as a painter and draftsman.

His work includes a variety of landscapes, especially of the Giant Mountains . In addition, he created around 250 watercolors of historical monuments in Prague and cities in Bohemia , Hungary , Dalmatia , the French Riviera and took part in exhibitions in Prague .

Jansa created several large pictures together with other painters. These include the 8.5 × 10 m diorama The Slaughter of the Saxons under Hrubá Skála (Czech Pobití Sasíků pod Hrubou Skálou, also Bitva pod Hrubou Skálou ) designed by Mikoláš Aleš in 1895 for the Gallery of the Bohemian Paradise in Turnau , next to Aleš Jansa, Karel Vítězslav Mašek and Vojtěch Bartoněk worked and it is one of the largest oil paintings in Europe.

Together with Luděk Marold , he created the Panorama Battle of Lipan (Bitva u Lipan) for the pavilion on the Prague exhibition grounds.
