The Ermeniler Tarafından Katledilen Şehit Türkler Anıt ve Müzesi is a memorial and museum in Iğdır, which is dedicated to Turkish "martyrs" killed by Armenians . The previous name was Iğdır Soykırım Anıtı ("Iğdır Genocide Memorial"). The term genocide does not refer to the genocide of the Armenians , but to an alleged genocide that the Armenian minority of the Ottoman Empire would have committed against the Turks.

The monument and its museum are located in the city of Iğdır . Construction began on August 1, 1997. It was completed on October 5, 1999. 4,000 people visit the museum every month.

The Turkish sculptor Mehmet Aksoy , who erected the monument of humanity in Kars in response to the Ermeniler Tarafından Katledilen Şehit Türkler Anıt ve Müzesi , called the monument a nationalist shrine .

Architecture and museum

The monument is about 43.5 meters high and forms the tallest monument in Turkey. Together with the museum, it covers an area of 14,000 m². The entrance gate to the associated museum was built in the Seljuk style. There are about five swords on the monument, which is supposed to remind of the Türben from the Seljuk era.

In the museum, the Armenian genocide is denied . Instead, the Armenians are accused of genocide against Muslims . There are also photos of the Turkish diplomats murdered by Asala (1973–1985) and ESAK . Caglar Yildirim, the museum's curator, stated:

“It was not we who committed genocide, but the Armenians. Yerevan must withdraw its accusations, and Europe had better stay out of this debate. Otherwise there will never be peace. "

- Caglar Yildirim
