Văleni is a municipality in the Neamț district in western Moldova in Romania .
geography
Văleni is located about 45 kilometers northeast of the city of Piatra Neamț ( Kreuzburg an der Bistritz ) and about 40 km northwest of the city of Roman ( Romesmarkt ). The parish includes the villages of Valeni, David, Moreni and Munteni.
Half of the municipal area is forested, the rest is divided into pastures (235 hectares), fruit-growing areas (40 hectares), vineyards (10.4 hectares) and water areas (44 hectares), roads (45 hectares) and other built-up areas. The large variety of native trees is remarkable: In addition to a unique oak species (Quercus vilmoriniana), yew , pine , spruce and even ginkgo trees grow in Văleni. There are also rare magnolias .
The Văleni municipality has a temperate continental climate with an average annual temperature of around 9 ° C. The annual precipitation is about 450-530 mm.
history
The place Văleni was first mentioned on April 14, 1506. In 1519 the Orthodox village church of Văleni was built; In total, there are four churches and a manor house distributed over the four villages, as well as the Catholic church "Duminica Rusaliilor" in David . There is another church in Moreni, dedicated to St. Parascheva, which was consecrated in 1866. According to a legend, the icon of St. Parascheva came to Moreni from a burned down monastery, of which only the statue was miraculously preserved.
Archaeological excavations
1958-1967 archaeological excavations of a Bronze Age settlement called "Dealul lui Dănila" took place in the area. In the autumn of 1965 a farmer discovered old Carpathian graves while plowing.

The municipality of Văleni has a total of 1801 inhabitants (2010), of which 935 men and 866 women. 259 people are under 18 years old, but there are 800 pensioners. As in the rest of rural Romania, Văleni is also struggling with emigration.

Economy and Infrastructure

In Văleni, the main economic factors are agriculture, forestry, viticulture, fruit growing and sheep and poultry farming. Furthermore, some residents are employed in retail.
Schools and kindergartens
There are two kindergartens and three schools in the community. In Valeni and Munteni there are kindergartens, each with an educator and around 20 children.
There is also a primary school on the outskirts of Munteni and in the center of Moreni (grades 1-4) and a middle school in Văleni (grades 1-8), which opened in 1865, one year after the introduction of compulsory schooling in Romania.

There are three football teams in the municipality, made up of residents from the villages of Văleni, Moreni and Munteni. There is also a library and cultural centers in Văleni and Moreni.
