history

Andritz Hydro administration building at the Ravensburg site

Andritz Hydro GmbH (until 2009: VA Tech Hydro) was created in 2000 through the merger of Sulzer Hydro , Escher-Wyss , the hydro activities of MCE and ELIN .

The Escher Wyss AG in 1805 and Sulzer AG founded 1834 in Zurich. In 1969, Escher Wyss was completely taken over by Sulzer and renamed Sulzer Escher Wyss. In 1995 the name was changed to Sulzer Hydro, which was taken over by VA Tech in 1999 and was called VA Tech Escher Wyss after the integration in 2000. The location in Ravensburg is an important location for the machine and plant construction of Andritz Hydro.

In 1892 the Pichlerwerke were founded in Weiz . The name ELIN first appeared in 1922. This was followed by the merger with the AEG Union, from which the ELIN UNION AG emerged. In 1989 ELIN was split up into ELIN energy application and ELIN energy supply. Andritz Hydro's most important generator production site is in Weiz.

VOEST-ALPINE MCE was founded in Linz in 1989 and bought Hydro Vevey in 1990, among others. In 1999 the Hydro division was taken over by VA TECH and is called VA TECH VOEST MCE after being integrated into VA TECH HYDRO in 2000. A large part of the steel and apparatus construction is carried out in Linz.

VA Technologie AG was founded in 1994, the group consisted of 4 divisions.

In 2005 the VA TECH Group was taken over by Siemens. VA Tech Hydro had to sell this again for anti-trust reasons. The range of gas and steam combined cycle power plants of VA Tech Hydro remained also at Siemens and is now part of the Siemens Energy Sector .

VA Tech Hydro has been owned by Andritz AG since 2006 and is now known as Andritz Hydro. The company was involved in the construction of the Ataturk Dam , the Goldisthal pumped storage plant , Karun-3 , the Freudenau power plant and the Malta power plants .
