VEB Ölheizgerätewerk Neubrandenburg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The VEB Ölheizgerätewerk Neubrandenburg , also known under the name VEB Sirokko-Gerätewerk, was a state-owned company in Neubrandenburg that had specialized in the manufacture of vehicle parking heaters . It was located directly on the Stettin-Hamburg railway, approx. 700 m east of the Neubrandenburg train station, on what is now the Webasto site .

history

VEB Ölheizgerätewerk emerged in 1953 from Lythall, which had existed on the same site since 1885.

Lythall was nationalized in 1953 and was given the name VEB Maschinenbau Neubrandenburg. Production was geared towards the needs of agriculture and included the manufacture and repair of agricultural machinery. In 1957, by decision of the GDR government, the development and production of heaters for water, road and rail vehicles began. For this purpose, the heating device production of VEB Vehicle Equipment Berlin was gradually taken over. In 1961 the company was renamed VEB Sirokko, which after an international legal dispute was changed to VEB Ölheizgerätewerk Neubrandenburg in 1964 and in 1980 to VEB Sirokko-Gerätewerk Neubrandenburg. In 1978 he was subordinated to the VEB Kombinat Progress Agricultural Machinery .

With the start of the production of heating devices, the number of employees rose from around 360 in 1958 to around 2250 between 1975 and 1990, around 50% of them at the headquarters in Neubrandenburg. The increase also resulted from the allocation of other establishments from the former district of Neubrandenburg . Ulrich Stark played a major role in the development of VEB Ölheizgerätewerk as operations manager from 1968 to 1987.

Immediately after the political change in 1989, the management contacted Webasto Stockdorf to sound out possibilities for cooperation. In September 1990 the contracts were signed with the Berlin Treuhandanstalt for a 100 percent takeover by Webasto AG.

A bicycle rope lock with an annual number of approx. 600,000 was manufactured for consumer goods production.

From 1984 there was a separate "Special Production" area in which components for the RPG-18 anti-tank weapon were produced.

Business units and locations

Due to the shortage economy in the GDR, many parts and assemblies for the heating devices had to be developed and manufactured in-house. Specialized areas for toolmaking, gray and aluminum casting, sheet metal forming, electroplating, mechanical processing, welding work and electrical / electronic assemblies such as electric motors, coils, cables and control devices were created.
