Antanas Vaičius

Antanas Vaičius (born April 5, 1926 in Geidučiai, Skuodas district , Lithuania ; † November 25, 2008 in Telšiai , Lithuania) was a Lithuanian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Telšiai .

Life

Vaičius studied at the Telšiai Seminary from 1943 to 1946 and at the Kaunas Seminary from 1946 to 1951 . He was ordained a priest on September 24, 1950. He held various positions in the Telšiai diocese and the Klaipėda prelature. From 1965 to 1973 he was pastor in Akmenė and deputy dean in Viekšniai. From 1973 to 1975 he was pastor in Telšiai and chancellor at the Telšiai episcopal see. In 1975 he was appointed vicar capitular of the Telšiai diocese and the Klaipėda prelature.

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Sullectum in 1982 and appointed him administrator of the Telšiai diocese . He received his episcopal ordination on July 25, 1982 in the cathedral of Kaunas Bishop Liudas Povilonis MIC ; Co- consecrators were Romualdas Krikšciunas , administrator of Panevėžys, and Bishop Vincentas Sladkevicius MIC, administrator of Kaišiadorys.

On March 10, 1989, he was appointed Bishop of Telšiai. Pope John Paul II granted his age-related resignation on 26th 2001.
