biography

Vannius entered the Maulbronn Monastery , then probably only attended Heidelberg University for a short time and turned his back on the monastery in the course of the Peasants' War in 1525. Probably through the mediation of the Ilsfeld pastor Johann Geyling (1495–1559), who might even be related to him, he was given a parish and chaplain position in Löwenstein . 1532 followed Vannius Geyling's call to the reformed , Brandenburg-Ansbachische Feuchtwangen , where he got married. Via Kulmbach , Vannius came to the Augustinians in Ansbach as a lecturer in 1533 . After Duke Ulrich's return and the Reformation in Württemberg, Vannius returned to Beilstein in 1535 at the request of the local citizens. In 1537 he was transferred to Backnang , where his experience in the reformation of the monasteries was desired. In the same year he had a preaching position at the Leonhardskirche in Stuttgart , where he was representative of Erhard Schnepf and in his place, after his professorship in Tübingen, headed the Evangelical Church in Württemberg. In 1548 Vannius rejected the Augsburg interim and was subsequently removed from office, but remained in the church leadership established by Duke Ulrich and was given a preaching position in Cannstatt . After Ulrich's death and the beginning of Duke Christoph's reign , Vannius was one of the bearers of the Württemberg Confession at the Council of Trent , along with Johannes Brenz , which, however, were no longer heard due to the rapid dissolution of the council. After the Augsburg Religious Peace of 1555, Vannius became the first Protestant abbot of Maulbronn Monastery in 1558, he was also a prelate and belonged to the state parliaments from 1565 and 1566, where, in addition to Brenz, he obtained the legal establishment of the state denomination.
