Valentino Alessandro Balli

Valentino Alessandro Balli (born October 9, 1796 in Cavergno , † September 8, 1863 in Locarno ) was a Swiss politician . From 1852 to 1854 he was a member of the National Council.

biography

Balli came from a wealthy merchant family from the Maggia Valley , who worked in Groningen in the Netherlands , among other places . He attended high school at the Collegio Papio in Ascona , after which he was a cloth dealer in Freiburg im Breisgau from 1816 to 1818 . After a short stay in Paris, he moved to Groningen in 1821 to work for the family-owned trading company. In 1839 he returned to Ticino and settled in Locarno.

Also in 1839, Balli was elected to the Ticino Grand Council as a representative of the moderate wing of the Liberals , of which he was a member for nine years. In the military he last had the rank of major . Due to the extensive property he inherited, he lived as a reindeer from 1848 . After Stefano Franscini was elected to the Federal Council, Balli successfully ran a by-election in the National Council constituency of Ticino-North in March . In 1854 he waived re-election.
