Vallisneria denseserrulata is a species of plant fromthe frog-bite family (Hydrocharitaceae).

description

The rhizome is upright, 1 to 6 inches long and 4 to 6 millimeters in diameter. The stolons have tiny thorns. The leaves measure 20 to 70 centimeters × 6 to 12 millimeters. There are three leaf veins, the middle of which is covered with tiny thorns. The leaf margin is slightly serrated, the tip blunt or pointed. The male spathe is three-edged, many-flowered and measures 1 to 1.5 centimeters × about 6 millimeters. The sepals are bent back. There are two stamens . The female spathe measures 1.5 to 2 centimeters. Your peduncle is very long and narrow. The sepals measure approx. 3 × 2 millimeters and are pointed. The fruit is triangular-cylindrical. The seeds are not winged.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 20.

The species blooms and produces fruit from September to October.

Occurrence

Vallisneria denseserrulata grows in rivers and lakes. The species occurs in Japan (Honshu) and in Anhui , Guangdong , Guangxi , Hubei , Liaoning and Zhejiang in the People's Republic of China .

Systematics

Vallisneria denseserrulata was first described in 1914 by Makino Tomitarō as the variety Vallisneria spiralis var. Denseserrulata . In 1921, Makino raised it to the rank of a species.
