Vehlen is a district of the municipality of Bensdorf in the far west of the state of Brandenburg on the border with Saxony-Anhalt in the district of Potsdam-Mittelmark .

geography

Vehlen is located in the northwest of the municipality of Bensdorf. To the west lies the state border with Saxony-Anhalt, to the north the district border with the Havelland district . The Bensdorf district of Altbensdorf is about a kilometer to the southeast . The residential area Dunke or Genzhof, which is northwest of the actual village, belongs to Vehlen . The next larger cities are Brandenburg an der Havel with the Plaue district about six kilometers to the east and Genthin about ten kilometers to the west.

Immediately on the western edge of the village is an Ice Age ridge, the Vehlenschen Berge . These sandy hills were formed during the last, the Vistula glaciation, at the ice edge layer 1b of the Brandenburg phase and reach a height of 71.8 meters.

history

In 1782 148 people lived in Vehlen. It belonged to the Altenplathow office . The residents were either subjects of the office or of the von Hüncke family, who had their seat on the Möthlitz manor . The church patronage at that time was held by the von Britzke family and the von Schlabrendorf family , the latter having their manor in Bensdorf. There was a mill at Vehlen. Around 1820 the population was 152 inhabitants and the church patronage had passed to the Lords of Hünecke on Möthlitz. The Feldmark Vehlens at that time had 2,615 acres of land. The "Genzenhof" belonging to Vehlen was mentioned as the farm of the heirs of Vehlen Schulzen Genz with ten residents. At that time Vehlen belonged to the district of Jerichow II in the Prussian province of Saxony and there to the administrative district of Magdeburg.

On July 1, 1950, Vehlen was incorporated into the new municipality of Bensdorf.

In 1952 an administrative reform was carried out in the GDR, which had existed since 1949 . The existing country broke it and formed instead of those districts . In this context, a district reform also took place , which led to the dissolution of the existing districts and to restructuring or reorganization. The district of Jerichow II was dissolved. The community of Bensdorf was integrated into the new Brandenburg district in the Potsdam district .

Attractions

The only registered architectural monument of Vehlen is the Vehlen village church , a neo-Gothic building from the 19th century.
