Velo Challenge

The Velo Challenge is a cycling race in and around the Lower Saxony state capital Hanover . The Jedermannrennen is open to everyone and is the largest cycling race for amateur athletes in Lower Saxony. The patrons are regional president Hauke ​​Jagau and mayor Stephan Weil . The routes are around 67 km or 116 km long and are accompanied by a colorful supporting program for the whole family . The starting point is usually the Maschsee .

Velo Challenge 2012

The Velo Challenge 2012 is announced for Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th June. The German university championship DHM racing bike is integrated .

As a supporting program, a cycling fair for novelties, an "E-Bike-Parcours" for free testing of new models and from 3pm to 6pm an adventure cycling track with real track bikes will be announced on Saturday from 12 noon. On Saturday evening from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. - in this case without registration - you can take part in the Velo City Night from the north bank of the Maschsee .

The idea for the Velo Challenge came from the initiator of the Hanover Night , Reinhard Kramer , and Detlef Rehbock, managing director of Soulstyle GmbH and today the organizer of the race.

Velo Challenge 2010

The first Velo Challenge took place on June 26th and 27th, 2010. The weekend began on Saturday with a cycling fair, an “Action Bike Show” and a stage program from Hit-Radio Antenne . Around 2,000 participants had registered for the race on the 60 km or 110 km long routes on Sunday.

Velo Challenge 2011

In June 2011, around 2,700 participants started at Rudolf-von-Bennigsen-Ufer on the Maschsee . The fastest cyclist on the 60 km long route that led from Hanover via Pattensen , Bennigsen and Bredenbeck am Deister and back was Daniel Knyss with one hour, 37 minutes and 15 seconds.

The 110 km long route led over the Nienstedter Pass on the Deister to Bad Münder . The winner was the Dutchman Dann van den Berg with three hours, two minutes and seven seconds.

In 2011, however, only ten children took part in a round course for schoolchildren around the Maschpark , although Detlef Rohbock , the organizer of the race, had previously written to all Hanover schools and invited them to participate. Eight participating students came from the Etelsen cycling club near Verden .
