Veratridine is a chemical compound from the group of steroid alkaloids and the main component of the alkaloid mixture called " veratrine " (veratrum alkaloid ). Veratridine acts as a neurotoxin by inhibiting the self-inactivation of sodium channels after depolarization .

Occurrence

White Germer ( Veratrum album )

The alkaloid is obtained from the seeds of Schoenocaulon officinale or from the rhizomes of Veratrum album .

use

Veratridine is used as a natural insecticide against thrips in citrus fruits and avocado . In the European Union and in Switzerland it is not approved as a crop protection agent.
