Verdesse is a white wine variety that is cultivated in small quantities in the Isère department in eastern France ( Vin de Savoie , VDQS - Vin du Bugey , Vin de Pays de Grésivaudan, country wines from the Drac Valley ). It produces high-alcohol, spicy white wines with floral aromas, but without a nutmeg note, as some of the synonyms imply. The late-ripening variety is also used as a table grape , is quite resistant to raw rot but susceptible to powdery mildew and downy mildew . Verdesse is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphroditic flowers and is therefore self-fruiting. In viticulture , the economic disadvantage of not having to grow male plants that produce yield is avoided.

The name alludes to the rich green of the leaves and berries (vert: green) Only clone 931 is permitted for viticulture in France .
