Verena Osgyan (born May 14, 1971 in Roth ) is a German politician . For Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen she is a member of the Bavarian state parliament and deputy parliamentary group leader.

Life

education and profession

Osgyan studied communication design at the Technical University of Nuremberg Georg Simon Ohm and graduated as a graduate designer (FH) . From 1999 to 2004 she worked as an art director for HL Studios in Erlangen, and from 2004 to 2010 she was an editor at the ARD program directorate in Munich. From 2010 to 2013 she was online marketing manager at Teambank in Nuremberg.

Political career

Osgyan joined the Greens in 1988 while at school. She is a member of the state working groups for universities, media & network politics, women and culture of her party in Bavaria. From 2010 to 2012 she was the spokeswoman for the district board of the Green Middle Franconia and since 2012 she has been the district chairman of the Nuremberg district association.

In the state elections in Bavaria in 2013 , she ran in the district of Nuremberg-West and as a green top candidate in Middle Franconia and was elected to the state parliament. In the state elections in 2018 , she ran again in her constituency. On January 20, 2018, she was re-elected to number 1 on the Central Franconian state parliament list of her party. With the second-best vote in the constituency of Middle Franconia, she moved back into the Bavarian state parliament.

In June 2019 she was nominated as a candidate for the office of Lord Mayor in the local elections in Nuremberg in 2020 .

Parliamentary group activity

In the state parliament Osgyan sits in the committee for science and art as well as in the committee for questions of the public service as well as 1st deputy. Chair of the Prison Advisory Board in Nuremberg. She is a member of the data protection commission and the ICT advisory board of the Bavarian state parliament.

As a representative of the Greens in the state parliament, she was a member of the Broadcasting Council of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation and there she was active in the committee for fundamental issues & media policy and in the program committee. She is the spokesperson for her group for the areas of science, network policy, data protection, women and equality and was deputy chair of her group from 2013 to 2016. In November 2018 she was re-elected as deputy chairman of the green parliamentary group.

Political positions

An important topic in her work in the state parliament is the support of women's shelters and women's emergency calls. As spokeswoman for women's politics in her parliamentary group, Osgyan campaigned for the publication of a study on the situation of women's shelters in Bavaria, commissioned by the Bavarian state government . In the state parliament she campaigns for a significant increase in funds for women affected by violence, for a better staff ratio and more places in women's shelters. She is also an advocate of gender parity in parliaments and handed so together with the Association for Women's Interests , the Bavarian Women's Council , the KDFB and other a civil suit before the Bavarian Constitutional Court one.

In the area of ​​university policy, she advocates a constitutional student body in Bavaria and introduced a draft law to the Bavarian State Parliament at the end of 2017. At the beginning of 2018, her criticism of 20 endowed professorships of the Dieter Schwarz Foundation at the Technical University of Munich made the press nationwide.

Other engagement

From 2002 to 2012 Osgyan was the managing director of webgrrls.de eV - network for women in the new media . She worked in the “Girls Go Informatik” initiative of the Society for Informatics . She is a member of various organizations, including the trade union ver.di , the Bund Naturschutz , the Franconian Bund , the Association for International Youth Work and the Association for the Promotion of the Evangelical Media Center in Bavaria. Private

Osgyan is married, has one child and lives in the northern part of Nuremberg.
