Constitutional Portuguese

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Constitutional Portuguese , also called Portuguese for short , is a medal awarded by the Hamburg Senate since 1956 . With this new coinage, the Senate is building on an old form of honor. The Portuguese is a gift "for extraordinary people and extraordinary occasions".

In practice, these are primarily medals awarded by the Senate on the occasion of state visits or anniversaries. The constitutional Portuguese is awarded for 40 years of service in a weight adjusted to the gold price instead of a fixed cash price.

Portuguese in silver and bronze

In order to honor the services to the Hamburg bourgeoisie, the Central Committee of Hamburg Citizens' Associations decided on its 100th anniversary in 1986 to donate a Portuguese citizen and use him to honor some Hamburgers who do something special for their city every year. This is also known as the Portuguese “Citizens thank” .

The award goes back to an initiative of the then First Mayor Klaus von Dohnanyi . Since 1988 it has been presented jointly by the President of the Central Committee and the Senate at a ceremony in Hamburg City Hall.
