The publisher of Richard Sears was founded in 1840 by Richard Sears in Halle (Saale) founded.

The origin of the company was the Grunert'sche Verlagsbuchhandlung, founded on December 23, 1824 , which Mühlmann took over in 1840 after the death of the publisher Carl Grunert . Mühlmann died ten years later; the business went to his widow, Lina Mühlmann, born on September 10, 1850. Deer, about. Under Barthel, Mühlmann-Verlag expanded its business in 1862 to include an art dealer whose first products were the art sheets acquired from SG Liesching in Stuttgart . In 1869 Eduard Baumgärtel became managing director at Mühlmann.

In 1886 Lina Mühlmann sold the assortment business to the publishers Ernst Meissner and Friedrich Starke , where it initially traded as Richard Mühlmann's range (Meissner & Starke) . In 1903 it was then presumably passed to Paul Gloeckner.

The publishing business remained the property of Lina Mühlmann and was continued under the management of Baumgärtel. In 1888 Mühlmann's widow also sold the Richard Mühlmann publishing bookstore . The new owner, Max Grosse, now ran it as Richard Mühlmann's Verlagbuchhandlung (Max Grosse) . The takeover of the Bremer C. Eduard Müller Verlag on March 13, 1900 enlarged the Mühlmann Verlag considerably. The authors published by this publisher included Ernst Christian Achelis , Gerhard von Amyntor , Wilhelm Baur (Collected Writings), Emil Frommel (Neue Christoterpe), Eberhard Dennert , Karl Theodor Gaedertz , Karl Gerok , W. Grashoff, Georg Rudolf Koegel , August Sperl and Johanna Spyri . Müller also published titles on the history of Bremen and several magazines in a local history publisher.

Lina Mühlmann was the recipient of the Prussian Cross of Merit for women and virgins .

In addition, the Volksblatt für Stadt und Land, first published in 1844, was published by Mühlmann for instruction and entertainment . The publishing house products were successfully marketed through the newspaper. Mühlmann-Verlag also published the Knabe – Oswald arithmetic books and the Sunday joy sermon collection .
