Gustav Jahn (writer)
Gustav Wilhelm Jahn (born February 23, 1818 in Sandersleben , † March 29, 1888 in Züllchow near Stettin ) was a German writer and employee of the Inner Mission . From 1858 until his death he was head of the rescue and brothers' house in Züllchow .
Life
From home Ackerbürger and Weißgerber champion like his father, Jahn was 1852 mayor of his native city. As early as 1842 he had made a name for himself as a Christian folk writer (under the pseudonym Gustav Frisch ) and published numerous articles in the Volksblatt für Stadt und Land , including fictional letters from "Schulzen Gottlieb" written in the style of Matthias Claudius . His most successful work was a version of the Song of Songs .
In 1858 he was appointed head of the Rescue and Brothers House Züllchow , a diaconal institution that had existed in Züllchow near Stettin since 1831 (from 1893 Züllchower Anstalten). From the start, Jahn endeavored to open up new sources of income for the institutions. He initiated and promoted the cattle and field economy, the art and commercial gardening as well as the Christmas crafts with their evangelical nativity figures and the old German family games. In 1862 he founded a Johanniter Hospital in connection with the Rescue and Brothers House ( taken over in 1908 by the Pomeranian Cripple Care Association and operated as the Pomeranian Cripple Home "Bethesda"). In 1863 he founded an institution for the mentally ill in Nemitz near Stettin, the Kückenmühler Anstalten .
His activities gave new impulses to the institutions, which were considerably enlarged as a result of the compulsory education law of March 13, 1878.
Gustav Jahn was married three times. From his second marriage to Dorothea von Dieskau (* 1832, † 1871), daughter of Colonel August von Dieskau , nine children were born. Among his sons were the fairy tale collector Ulrich Jahn (* 1861; † 1900) and Fritz Jahn (* 1863; † 1931), who followed his father into the management of the Züllchower establishments.
