Veronika Staber (born July 24, 1987 in Prien am Chiemsee ) is a former German ski racer . She belonged to the squad of the German Ski Association (DSV) and competed in the giant slalom and slalom disciplines . In 2006 she became German champion in giant slalom.

biography

The daughter of the skier Ernst Staber grew up in Törwang (municipality of Samerberg ). She competed in her first race at the age of five. After completing secondary school at the Berchtesgaden Ski School , she trained as a police officer with the Federal Police in Bad Endorf .

From December 2002 on, Staber competed regularly in FIS races in Europe. Two years later she made her debut in the European Cup . In the 2005/06 season she managed to catch up with the German top. She became the youngest member of the DSV level 1 management team. Between December 2005 and March 2006, she was among the top ten in 13 FIS races and she was also among the top ten for the first time in the European Cup.

She achieved the greatest success of her career so far in April 2006. At the German Championships held on the Fellhorn , she surprisingly became German champion in giant slalom, and in slalom she also finished third. After she already had two appearances in the World Cup in February 2006 , thanks to these successes she was promoted to the German World Cup team in the 2006/07 season . At the start of the season in Levi , Finland , she scored her first World Cup points with rank 27.

In February 2007, Staber tore a cruciate ligament while falling in Abetone . After further setbacks in rehabilitation, she was only able to make her comeback at the end of 2009. It was initially used mainly in the European Cup and has been regularly back in the World Cup since the 2010/2011 season. On February 6, 2011, she achieved her best World Cup result to date with 12th place in the giant slalom in Zwiesel . After she did not achieve the desired success in the coming years, she ended her career after the 2013/2014 season.

After retiring from active competitive sports , Veronika Staber completed training as a physiotherapist and fitness trainer and has since been offering her services under the motto Fit with Veronika Staber - Mountain Physiotherapy .
