The Verse is a 24.5 km long orographic left and southwest tributary of the Lenne in the Sauerland ( Märkischer Kreis ) in North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany .
course
The river rises northeast of Meinerzhagen and flows from there in a northerly direction through the Fürwiggetalsperre and Versetalsperre , both of which are located southeast of Lüdenscheid . Below the last-mentioned reservoir, the Verse flows through the Lüdenscheid district of Brüninghausen and then bends to the northeast. In the Versevörde district of Werdohl, the river flows into the Lenne.
Industry and tourism
Due to the relatively steep gradient, the verses and their tributaries were often used for water-powered hammer mills in the past . The section between Lüdenscheid and Werdohl, which is known as the actual "Versetal", has a particular charm. The Schmiedemuseum Bremecker Hammer is located on the Bremecke brook in the immediate vicinity of its confluence with the Verse.
