The town of Gehren and three municipalities had come together in the administrative community Langer Berg from the Thuringian Ilm district to handle their administrative business. The name of the administrative community came from the long mountain of the same name , around which all member communities were grouped. The seat of the administrative community was in Gehren.

The municipalities

  1. Gehren (city or rural community)
  2. Herschdorf
  3. Neustadt am Rennsteig
  4. Pennewitz

history

The administrative community was founded on March 8, 1994. The municipality Möhrenbach , which belonged to the administrative community, was incorporated into the town of Gehren on December 31, 2013. This was raised to a rural community . On the occasion of the Thuringia regional reform in 2018 and 2019 , the city of Ilmenau negotiated an integration with the city of Gehren and the municipality of Pennewitz, with the result that they were integrated into the city of Ilmenau on July 6, 2018. The administrative community was thereby dissolved. The administrative community Großbreitenbach was expanded to include Herschdorf and Neustadt.

Community chairmen were:

  • Beate Misch 2007 - 2018
