history
The administrative community was founded on May 19, 1994. The first honorary chairman was Andreas Beyersdorf from July to September 1994, followed by Winfried König as full-time chairman until 1997. From 1998 Andreas Beyersdorf was again in office as full-time chairman. On July 6, 2018, the municipalities of Herschdorf and Neustadt am Rennsteig were accepted from the dissolved administrative community of Langer Berg as part of the Thuringia regional reform in 2018 and 2019 . On January 1, 2019, the administrative community was dissolved. The member communities merged to form the city and rural community of Großbreitenbach.
