Location of the former administrative community in the Ilm district

The town of Plaue and six municipalities had come together in the administrative community of Upper Geratal from the Thuringian Ilm district to handle their administrative business.

The seat of the administrative community was in Graefenroda .

The municipalities

history

The administrative community was founded on July 14, 1993. On January 1, 1996, the community of Gossel and the city of Plaue joined the administrative community.

Rolf Fleischhauer was the chairman of the administrative association from 1994 to 2015, and David Atzrott was the chairman from October 1, 2015 until the administrative association was dissolved.

On January 1, 2019, the municipalities of Frankenhain, Geschwenda, Gossel, Gräfenroda, Liebenstein and Geraberg (the last one belonged to the Geratal administrative community up to then ) joined together to form the rural municipality of Geratal as part of the Thuringia regional reform in 2018 and 2019 . Gehlberg was incorporated into the independent city of Suhl . The Geratal administrative community was expanded to include the town of Plaue and renamed the Geratal / Plaue administrative community .
