Administrative Court of Karlsruhe

The Karlsruhe Administrative Court is one of four administrative courts in the state of Baden-Württemberg .

History and buildings

The building on the northern Hildapromenade in Karlsruhe was designed by Adolf Hanser (1858–1901) and erected after his death by Friedrich Ratzel as the most representative part of a building ensemble that also includes the General State Archives and the former Chamber of Accounts (today the State Audit Office ). The building, designed in the style of neo-baroque historicism , is crowned by a lantern .

After its completion in 1905, the building was occupied by the Baden Administrative Court, which was created in 1864 as the first independent administrative court in Germany. Even today, the designation "Administrative Court" is in gold letters above the main entrance.

Bay console

A remarkable architectural detail is the console of the bay window on the east facade, which is designed as a grimace and sticks out its tongue in the direction of the neighboring building of the Higher Regional Court . This is likely to go back to the rivalry between the two architects Ratzel and Durm .

After the Second World War , as part of the reorganization of the administrative jurisdiction in 1947, Karlsruhe was designated the seat of the administrative court responsible for Württemberg-Baden ; In 1954 it moved into the historic building on the northern Hildapromenade, while the seat of the administrative court was relocated to Mannheim after the founding of the south-western state of Baden-Württemberg in 1959.

In the course of the expansion of the administrative court due to the increasing number of asylum seekers, the need arose to set up a branch. This is located in Röntgenstrasse 2a.

Seat and District of the Court

The Administrative Court (VG) Karlsruhe has its seat in Karlsruhe . The judicial district extends to the administrative district of Karlsruhe . Another 35 employees work in service units that are assigned to the chambers and the legal application office , as clerks and typists.
